If you have problems with the uglyness of the website, the most common cause is the choice of your webbrowser. I recomment Firefox as the best browser to view this website. Although with other W3C compatible webbrowsers, like Chrome, Opera or Safari, this site will also be acceptable for the eye. Off course there has to be one black sheep in the flock: Internet Explorer. If you use this browser, the site will look crappy. This phenomenon was included in the concept, if you want to use a crappy browser, you have to accept that sites will look crappy!
